Dedicated to journaling our work mission trip to Costa Rica sponsored by the Iowa Conference Volunteers in Mission of the United Methodist Church. A place for us to share our excitement, prayers, anticipation, and anything else God puts on our hearts.
Continue praying for the team, for the people with whom we will work, play and worship with in Costa Rica, safe travels and for those we leave at home. God goes before us and will walk with us!

Day 5 Painting Crew Branches Out & Helps at Church; VBS Helps with Feeding Program

Wed. Jan. 9 Painting Crew It was a short morning of work at the orphanage but we rejoiced at the completion of painting the library with 2 coats of yellow paint. The task was begun on Monday with Mike, Lanette, Sally, Ruth, Nola and Jane rolling in the first coat where they could and painting with brushes around the windows and in narrow areas. Work continued on Tues. with the addition of Vera, Michele, Laci, Barb & Nancy helping paint and clean the area of debris. At 11:00 the later moved to Los Guidos Methodist Church, Pastor Edgars' church to help with the children's feeding program and to present VBS to many, many children.

Painting on both buildings at the orphanage halted today at 11 AM and the painters moved our work project to the Guadalupe Church where most of us mixed the cement, carried it to the second floor kitchen by buckets full and helped with the pouring and smoothing of the floor. More rails were added to the steel stairs to the second floor. A new girder was started which will extend and expand the balcony of the church. The new kitchen was readied for leveling the floor and

about one half of the floor was poured. Cabinet makers first had to shop for additional tools and screws. The cabinet base was completed and the opening squared and fixed (?) along with 2 shelves laminated Formica. Our church cooks rewarded us with rice pudding for our break—yum yum. Ev and Jane recruited several “Big Feet” helpers to serve as “Clamps” for various stages in the cabinet making process. Ev & Ruth K.
