Dedicated to journaling our work mission trip to Costa Rica sponsored by the Iowa Conference Volunteers in Mission of the United Methodist Church. A place for us to share our excitement, prayers, anticipation, and anything else God puts on our hearts.
Continue praying for the team, for the people with whom we will work, play and worship with in Costa Rica, safe travels and for those we leave at home. God goes before us and will walk with us!

JOURNAL ENTRY Jan. 5 OUR FIRST DAY

Saturday, Jan. 5 Our day begin at 3:50 AM when Beverly Nolte, team leader, beat on our door announcing a new day. At the Des Moines Airport we got to see the security force in action! The fire alarm went off and everything stopped dead in its tracks. The fire trucks arrived after about 5 minutes and put the alarm out a few minutes later. Des Moines to Dallas, white fields to brown. Dallas to Costa Rica, flat to very hilly. We had one bag mix-up but got that straightened out. We had a beautiful bus pick us up at the airport and deliver us to the Iglesia Evangelica Metodista Conference Center (pictured first) our home away from home. Charlie Strong, an individual volunteer, helped us get settled and explained how things worked. We went to the Los Guidos Methodist Church (pictured second) and the ladies there fed us. Charlie exchanged money and entertained us until it was time to return to the compound and get ready for bed. It’s been a great day. Larry B
