Dedicated to journaling our work mission trip to Costa Rica sponsored by the Iowa Conference Volunteers in Mission of the United Methodist Church. A place for us to share our excitement, prayers, anticipation, and anything else God puts on our hearts.
Continue praying for the team, for the people with whom we will work, play and worship with in Costa Rica, safe travels and for those we leave at home. God goes before us and will walk with us!

Day 12 Work Continues & Devotions End the Day

Wed. Jan. 16 Yesterday is a memory as Lanette said last night. For many of us who were ill, we are happy to leave sickness behind. Joy this morning with renewed energy and a beautiful day as the present.

Breakfast of rice/beans, sausages, bananas/pineapple and juice. Several people could eat only cereal or toast. Rosa, our cook, cheerfully accommodates us.

Our group seems equally divided among work at the house, the church and the orphanage. Few stayed behind at the Conference Center due to illness.

Six buildings at the Vista de Mar orphanage are painted two coats of paint. One building has one coat on it before we ran out of paint. The children came out and wanted to help. Terry, our interpreter, was painted a little on her hair and shirt. The children were rascals today!

There was also a small group that was ill so did not return for afternoon work. Rest was the best cure for them.

The work was done at the end of the day. Goodbyes were said to young and older new friends. Back to the church for Costa Rican spaghetti and garlic bread.,

Devotions followed the meal back at the “Big Room.” Each person gave their impressions of their work experiences and that particular team received group applause. The nice words were very moving, especially regarding the development of community with our full team of 36 members. Bev’s wisdom which she shared about returning home was appreciated and also factual. Most all spoke of their good experiences. We’re grateful. Marilyn W.
