Dedicated to journaling our work mission trip to Costa Rica sponsored by the Iowa Conference Volunteers in Mission of the United Methodist Church. A place for us to share our excitement, prayers, anticipation, and anything else God puts on our hearts.
Continue praying for the team, for the people with whom we will work, play and worship with in Costa Rica, safe travels and for those we leave at home. God goes before us and will walk with us!

Tuesdays Update

Beautiful day in Costa Rica! Sunny and not hot. Many projects continue to be accomplished.
  • Medical Team

Saw at least 70 patients of all ages. Band-aids to extensive as cancer. Young child with heart murmur. No medical facilities to treat them. Prayers!

  • Hair Cuts - have you heard of Gorilla Snot - The kids love it - stiffens the hair for the latest styles
  • Church where we eat

Continue working on the church renovations. Steel hand rails, Tiling, Plastering, Dry wall, busting concrete and one´s backs as you might imagine but all in love in everyone pitching in as needed

  • House being built for local family on the side of a steep hill

Carried concrete & pillars to the site - These weigh in the 100´s of lbs. (tomorrow will be installing 150lb. cement pillars in 30 holes still to be dug; Work continued with shoveling & wheel barrowing dirt to level the yard which required pick axes to chop the dirt from the alley, A perfect place to get a suntan and each person who has worked so hard on this project both days are continuing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Orphanage

Painted library & house all day! Takes many coats and the children want to help, so there were a few with yellow paint in their hair. One lady, Ruth, also pulled weeds around the painted buildings and she is covered with painted weeds this evening.

  • VBS

The children have returned excited to see the person they had contacted with the day before; in fact, at the end of the day one stood in front not wanting her special person to leave and gave her a kiss. They just need a lot of extra love and attention from people who really care. Beautiful children with large large brown eyes. Oh yes, they learned how to cut out a snowflake and that was their favorite!
